Proposal code: THC-2026-06-152

Refurbishment of Marble Line Bridge, Broadford - a vital bridge link on the Highland Council's Core Path Plan.

Estimated Cost

£32,000

The Marble Line Bridge, in the heart of Broadford, is a vital bridge link connecting paths on the existing path network in Broadford. It is also an integral part the Highland Council’s Core Path plan (SL03.07) The Marble Line Bridge was originally part of the Broadford Bay Heritage Trail Project, developed to raise awareness of the area’s archaeological, industrial, maritime and cultural heritage.  It was also to enable more people to access and become more involved in their heritage. The trail links key sites and themes located around three miles of Broadford Bay. The project includes paths, interpretation panels, the restoration of an archaeological site and a footbridge.

The Marble Line Bridge was built in 2010 and is extremely well used by both the local and visiting community.

Broadford and Strath Community Company have been surveying the bridge and carrying out remedial repairs over the years however the time has now come for extensive refurbishment.  Invitations to Quote have been distributed and a preferred contractor has been identified however funding is required to carry out the full works. These works would involve removing and replacing all the wooden elements of the bridge.  The replacement wood will be a long lasting hardwood - Ekki.

If possible, we would hope to carry out the works over the Autumn months to allow for less disruption to this busy area of our path network and to hopefully get some favourable weather conditions.
