What do you want to do? We are seeking funding to develop a Skye and Lochalsh Third Sector Video Directory, alongside the equipment and digital infrastructure required to deliver it.
The project will include the following activities:
- Purchase of a professional video production kit (camera, microphones, lighting, stabilisation equipment) to enable high-quality filming
- Purchase of a Vimeo subscription to securely host and manage video content
- Production of an initial suite of short films profiling organisations funded through the Skye and Lochalsh Community Hub Project
- Development of a standardised format and style for video profiles to ensure consistency and accessibility
- Creation of an online video directory hosted via the SLCVO website
- Expansion of the directory to include additional third sector organisations
- Delivery of free short video entries (criteria to be agreed) and paid listings
- Development of a social enterprise offer, providing video services for funding applications, project evaluation, and events
- This project will build long-term capacity within SLCVO to deliver professional digital media services for the local third sector.
Why is your project important for your community?
The Skye and Lochalsh area has a vibrant but geographically dispersed third sector. Many organisations deliver vital services but face challenges in visibility, engagement, and communicating their impact, particularly across rural and island communities. This project addresses these challenges by:
- Making organisations more visible and accessible through engaging video content
- Supporting groups to tell their story in a clear, human, and impactful way
- Improving public awareness of available services and support
The project aligns with key priorities commonly identified in local Area Place Plans, including:
- Strengthening community connectivity across dispersed rural areas
- Supporting community resilience and wellbeing
- Enhancing digital inclusion and communication
- Promoting and sustaining local organisations and services
By creating a central, accessible video directory, the project will help residents, partners, and funders better understand what support is available locally and how to access it.
What positive impact will your project have? The project will deliver a range of positive outcomes for both organisations and the wider community:
For third sector organisations:
- Increased visibility and reach
- Improved ability to demonstrate impact
- Stronger content to support funding applications and partnerships
For the community:
- Better awareness of local services and opportunities
- Improved ability to connect with appropriate support
- Stronger sense of community identity and activity
For SLCVO:
- Increased membership value and engagement
- Development of a sustainable income stream through video services
- Enhanced capacity to act as a digital support hub for the sector
In the longer term, the project will contribute to a more connected, visible, and resilient third sector across Skye and Lochalsh.
What key milestones have you achieved so far and what will your next steps be?
Community Engagement & Support Evidenced SLCVO works closely with third sector organisations across Skye and Lochalsh through ongoing projects, including the Community Hub. There is clear demand for better ways to communicate impact and reach wider audiences, which this project directly addresses.
A clear project model has been developed, including phased delivery (pilot, expansion, social enterprise) and a defined equipment specification based on professional video production requirements.
Equipment costs have been identified and benchmarked through a detailed video kit costing guide, ensuring value for money and appropriate quality.
Next Steps
- Purchase equipment and digital platform subscription
- Produce pilot videos with Community Hub-funded groups
- Launch the initial online video directory
- Expand participation to additional organisations
- Develop and promote paid video services
What is your anticipated start date/end date?
- Start date: Within 1 month of funding approval
- End date: Initial project phase completed within 12 months
- First 3–4 months: equipment purchase and pilot video production
- Months 5–12: directory expansion and development of income-generating services
The project is designed to continue beyond the initial funding period as a sustainable, ongoing service.
