What Cauldeen Primary School Parent Council wants to propose?

We want to deliver the Cauldeen Primary School Parent Council Play It Forward Playground Improvement project, a long-term phased project to upgrade and enhance the existing school playground. So it better meets the needs of all pupils which at present is in a desperate need of improvement. Funding will be used to purchase and install inclusive playground equipment suitable for a wide range of ages and abilities, improve accessibility safety within the playground, introduce equipment that supports physical activity, imaginative play and social development and create designated play areas that support children with additional support needs.

We would work with approved playground, suppliers and Highland Council Estates to design and deliver improvements in line with regulations. As this is a long-term project, improvements will be delivered in phases as funding is secured.

Why our project is important for our community, it is because Cauldeen Primary School is at the heart of its local community and the playground is used daily by pupils from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities. The current playground is no longer meets the needs of the children, particularly in relation to inclusive and accessible play. This project is important because -

Outdoor plays essential for physical health, mental well-being and social development.

Inclusive equipment ensures children with additional support needs are fully included.

Improved facility support, positive behavior, confidence and resilience.

A phased-long-term approach ensure sustainable development of the space.

The project aligns with the Area Place Plan by -

By promoting health, well-being and active lifestyle.

Supporting and inclusive and sensible community spaces.

Strengthening social connections within the school community.

Investing in facilities that will benefit current and future pupils.

While there is currently no formal Area Place Plan in place for the area. This project reflects the key areas of a Area Place Plan. It is been shaped through community and pupil engagement and focuses on improving health and well-being, inclusion, accessibility and the quality of local facilities for current and future generations.

We're hoping our project will have a positive impact while creating long-lasting benefits for pupils, staff, families and the wider Community.  Expected outcomes include -

Increased physical activity and outdoor engagement, improved well-being and emotional and regulation through play. The greater inclusion for children with additional support needs enhance social skills, confidence and teamwork.

By delivering the project in phases, over time the improvements will be sustainable and continue to grow as additional funding is achieved.

The key milestones we have achieved so far and what will our next steps be?

We have secured £3,100 in funding, demonstrating strong commitment and momentum.

A "Design Your Own Playground" competition involving pupils, with prizes and medals, ensuring children's voices are central to the project.

Meetings held with The Highland Council Estates with further meetings scheduled with Estates and the Playground Co-Ordinator.

Initial research into approved playground suppliers.

Strong back from the school leadership, Parent Council and Wider Community.

The next steps would be to finalise the playground design, based of pupil input and professional advice.

Obtain necessary permissions and approvals.

Secure formal quotes from suppliers.

Continue submitting funding applications.

Deliver future fundraising events and community fundraising drives to build funds over time and ensure project success. The anticipated start date, probably the end of March-April 2026.  With the initial phase completed by September 2026 but obviously this is an ongoing project and we will obviously build funds and implement our playground improvements as and when we have the funding for it and legalities all in place.
