Project proposal to enhance our current core services due to the amount of third sector organisations seeking assistance from CVG, by employing a support officer for up to 4 days per week to offer support and guidance to community groups and organisations across Caithness through the creation of organisational health checks. Further support will then be provided following the initial health check and subsequent report in the following areas:
AGM, EGM & Committee/Board Meeting Procedures & Training
Organisation Planning & Development
Organisation Performance Monitoring
Organisation Financial Procedures
Funding/Income
Staff & Volunteers
Record Keeping & Data Management
This project is extremely important to the communities across Caithness due to the number of Third Sector organisations that are currently struggling financially, or are struggling to meet statutory compliance obligations, both of which are putting them at serious risk of closure, creating a reduction in services or facilities. Many of these organisations focus on Mental Health, or poverty relief. Whilst not directly attributed to any one section of the local place plans, Mental health and poverty go hand in hand and are associated with skills shortages, lack of employment, health etc.
Our project will aim to focus on the organisations that can make the most impact within the community, ensuring that they continue to deliver their vital services. We will take a proactive approach, offering the free organisational health check to organisations to establish which areas need attention to ensure they are operating under a good governance structure, are able to satisfy any statutory compliance obligations, and have access to, or plans in place to secure sufficient funding for continued operation, building capacity within that organisation and making them resilient.
We have currently created our Organisational Health Check Self Assessment form and report template, and run a trial of the forms against a local organisation, and have started to select organisations to initally target to provide this service to. Our next steps will be to contact the organisations to start doing the organisational Health checks.
We anticipate to start this project in anger as soon as funding can be secured for a support officer, and the project will last initially for one year to gauge that the desired impoact has been achieved on the organisations that have been targeted or assisted.
