Estimated Price

1000000

The development of a multi use games area for the Tongue, Melness and Skerray area represents a transformational opportunity for our remote and fragile community. As a rural region facing sustained challenges from depopulation, declining infrastructure, limited opportunities for  our young people and rising social isolation this project identifies longstanding needs higlighted in both national and regional planing policy. The MUGA will create a safe, modern high quality space for physical activity and community connection, offering year round access to sport, excersise and social interaction for residents of all ages. NPF4 emphasises the need to support healthier, more resilient places, particularly in fragile rural communities where access to servces and facilities is constrained.  The focus is on 20-minute neighbourhoods, wellbeing, climate resilient infrastructure and community led development. This project will provide viatal local infrastructure that enhances daily living, active lifestyles, supports our schools and education sector and contributes to retaining and attracting families- a key goal of the NPF4 in fragile areas. Highland councils framework similarly recognises the need to invest in rural communities, delivering improved services, accessible community facilities, building long term resilience. Our Sutherland Plan identifies creation of youth facilities, outdoor spaces and community driven initiatives as an essential for sustaining community life. All of which is reinforced by the inclusion of the desire for the  MUGA in the HIE commisioned Masterplan for this area and the newly developed Local place plan. The positive impact of the project will be sugnificant as we attempt to repopulate our villages. It will create opportunities for clubs, events, community gatherings and wellbeing programmes along with postive physical and mental health outcomes. Enhancing our infrastructure will play a significant part in population retention and growth, strengthening the attractiveness of the area for young families and will contribute to long-term resilience. We are making steady progress, community consultations have been completed and we will continue to update the community as the projct progresses. Surveys, and technical reports that will be required for pre-planning aplication are in progress ensuring the project meets all the regulatory, environmental and technical expectations at an early stage.  We  hope to have the feasibiity and socioeconomic study completed soon, we are in prosess of begining the negotiations for the heads of tearms on the lease agreement for the location and the company Kompan have provided us with designs and costings for the equipment and construction of the facility. Our aim is for construction to start towards the end of  2026. Dependant of course on the planning application and funding.
