We are applying for Funding for our Finance & Administration Officer which is 20 hours per week. This is an essential role to ensure our project runs smoothly and our Young Carers receive the best possible support. This role will ensure that our budgets are properly tracked, accounting records are accurate and book-keeping is up to date. Also an Outreach Worker which would be 14 hours per week who can visit all rural schools to make sure our rural young carers are receiving the support they need. Both roles will ensure support can be given for Young Carers from all over Caithness. This will benefit Young Carers from Wick, Thurso, Halkirk, Watten, Canisbay, Lybster & Dunbeath.
Caithness KLICS was established in 2013 due to the demand for support for Young Carers in Caithness. A young carer is a young person who cares, unpaid, for a person who has any type of physical or mental illness, physical and/or mental disability or misuses substances such as alcohol or drugs. Caithness KLICS support Young Carers from age 5-18 years old.A Young Carer is a child that cares for a family member (a sibling, a parent or any other family member). A Young Carer has extra responsibilities and may do daily chores around the house, cook meals or go shopping, they could also pick up or administrate medication. They also can support a family member emotionally, for someone that suffers from ill mental health.A young carer could even miss out on School or a social life due to the support they are giving a family member. We are here to support the Young Carer, by giving them the time to focus on them so they can have Fun and be CHILDREN again.
Our projects support both health and wellbeing and the development of a diverse economy by ensuring that young carers have access to the practical, emotional and social support they need. Through our activities during term and holiday time, wellbeing activites/trips, the peer support and gaining new skills. We help to reduce isolation, improve mental health and build resilience among young people with caring responsibilities. By enabling young carers to remain engaged in their education, our work helps remove barriers. We are committed to creating inclusive opportunities for young people from a wide range of backgrounds, helping to build healthier communities and futures.
Our project will have a positive impact on young carers by improving their mental health, wellbeing and future opportunities. Through access to our support, respite sessions, activities, peer support and personal development opportunities. Young carers will experience reduced stress and isolation, improved mental and emotional wellbeing and increased confidence. The project will help them balance their caring responsibilities with education and social activities, enabling them to achieve their full potential. In the longer term, early intervention and support can help prevent crisis situations, reduce inequalities and improve outcomes for young people and their families.
We hope to start both of these roles by August/September 2026 and run these for atleast 1 year depending on securing further funding for both roles.
