Inverness City & Inverness-shire Area Place Plan
How the Plan Was Developed
This overview has been informed and guided by a review of existing local, regional and national plans and strategies which guide investment and steer the delivery of development projects, so we realise our vision for the city and its future needs. Based on these existing workstreams, a series of priority outcomes have been identified and mapped against current and potential future projects which may deliver on the vision and priorities. Initial work to pull together this overview has been undertaken by Highland Council and HIE including briefings and discussions with stakeholder representative across the city and area. However, Inverness Strategy is as a multi-partner endeavour to coordinate delivery on our shared priorities for the future.
Key sources for the development of Inverness Strategy include:
- Inverness City Centre Vision (360 Architecture): Post-Covid review of how the city centre can continue to be a vibrant, healthy and attractive place to work, live and do business.
- Inverness 2035: One City, One Vision (Inverness Futures Group).
- National Planning Framework 4: qualities of successful places.
- Highland Local Development Plans and associated supplementary guidance: including the Indicative Regional Spatial Strategy (IRSS), emerging Local Development Plan, city-specific development briefs.
- Draft Inverness Community Partnership Plan.
Key priorities highlighted in the Inverness Strategy are:
| Inverness as a prime destination |
|
| A living working city |
|
| A green and healthy city |
|
| A zero carbon city |
|
| A digital city |
