Whole family welfare support for young carers and their families in Sutherland
Proposal code: THC-2026-04-104
Provide support for the families of young carers. Support includes food, access to local grants and vouchers schemes, regular parents groups and support to access additional services.
Estimated Price
£36,000
Through surveys and conversations with our families and young carers we are aware of where they most need support.
The project focuses on 4 areas, and is delivered by our part time Family Welfare Worker;
-
Food larder – we work with CFINE to provide food packages for our families, via a larder we have set up in our building in 2025. We want to increase the use and reach of this larder for our families.
-
Parents group – running once per month, we provide transport to bring parents of young carers together for socialising, food and support. We want to increase this to twice per month.
-
Sourcing grants for individuals – both local and national, for example food/fuel vouchers locally and nationally through appropriate providers. We have sourced £1000s of vouchers and grants over the last 3 years.
-
Access to services e.g CAB, Women’s Aid, mental health – build on relationships with referral partners and support families to attend these appointments, attending with them if necessary.
So far we have supported 120 young carers and their families through this project, which is due to end in December 2026. We are seeking funding to extend this for another 2 years.
