1. Golspie Sutherland Football Club is seeking funding towards the construction of a new covered spectator stand at King George V Park in Golspie. The project will provide safe, accessible and sheltered seating for supporters, families, volunteers, visiting teams and members of the local community attending football matches and events. The funding will contribute towards the purchase and installation of the stand, associated groundworks, foundations, drainage, surfacing and accessibility improvements around the facility. The stand will become a permanent asset for the club and wider community, improving the quality of the ground while supporting the long term sustainability of football in Golspie.The project also forms part of the club's ongoing ground improvement programme to ensure the facility continues to meet Scottish Football Association licensing requirements and remains suitable for future development. As a volunteer led, non profit community club, external funding is essential to deliver improvements that would otherwise be beyond our financial resources. 2. Golspie Sutherland Football Club has served the local community for generations and provides football opportunities for children, young people and adults across Sutherland. As one of the most rural senior football clubs in Scotland, our facilities are used by players, volunteers, supporters, schools, community groups and visitors throughout the year. Our existing spectator facilities are limited and provide little protection from the weather. This can discourage attendance, particularly amongst older people, young families and those with mobility issues. A covered stand will create a more welcoming, comfortable and inclusive environment, encouraging more people to attend matches and community events regardless of the weather.The project aligns closely with the priorities within the Sutherland Area Place Plan by improving community infrastructure, supporting health and wellbeing, increasing participation in sport, strengthening community resilience and enhancing local facilities. The football club is an important community asset, bringing people together, reducing rural isolation and creating opportunities for volunteering and social interaction.The improvements will also help attract visitors to Golspie, supporting the local economy through increased spending in local shops, cafés and accommodation providers on matchdays. 3. The new stand will provide a lasting benefit to the whole community. It will improve the matchday experience for spectators by providing shelter and seating, making football more accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Older supporters, parents with young children and those less able to stand for long periods will particularly benefit.The improved facilities will encourage greater attendance at matches, increasing community engagement and strengthening local pride. Higher spectator numbers will also generate additional income for the club, helping to reinvest in youth football, coaching, equipment and facility maintenance.The project will support the club's ambition to maintain and develop Scottish Football Association licensing standards, ensuring the club can continue competing at its current level while providing a facility the community can be proud of. The stand will also enhance the appearance of the ground, creating a more professional venue capable of hosting additional football activities and community events. By investing now, we are securing the long term future of one of the areas key sporting facilities for future generations. 4. The project has progressed significantly despite remaining in the development stage.Community engagement and support: The proposal has been fully supported by the club committee, volunteers and members, who recognise the need to improve spectator facilities and continue developing the ground.Project planning: The preferred location for the stand has been identified and initial feasibility work has confirmed that the proposal is practical and achievable. Necessary consents: Planning permission has not yet been obtained but is expected to be approved. The club intends to submit the required planning application commences and ensure all statutory approvals are secured prior to any works taking place. Quotes: Initial budget costs have been prepared, and supplier quotations will be finalised as the project develops Funding applications: The club has currently only applied to the Community Regeneration Fund. External funding is vital to minimise the financial burden on the club.If funding is secured, the next steps will include completing the planning process, confirming funding, obtaining final quotations, appointing contractors, undertaking site preparation works and constructing the stand. 5. Subject to securing funding and obtaining planning permission, the project is expected to commence within three to six months of funding approval.Planning and procurement activities will be completed first, followed by site preparation and construction. The anticipated construction period is relatively short, with the overall project expected to be completed within approximately six months of commencement.The club will programme works to minimise disruption to football activities wherever possible and will ensure the facility is ready for community use as soon as practicable.
