Boleskine Community Care (BCC) is a registered charity operating in Foyers in the Highlands. Our mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of our community through a programme of local activities, community transport, a food larder and other community activities. Over the past few years BCC led the campaign to purchase the building which contains our local shop and cafe which serve the people of Stratherrick and Foyers at which was at risk of closing or being sold for housing, due to the retirement of the previous owners. The shop in Foyers is the only shop and Post Office between Inverness and Fort Augustus on the B862 side of Loch Ness and services a wide, rural community, many of whom would otherwise have no access to a shop or post office without going into Inverness. The building is located next to the Falls of Foyers and therefore also benefits from a good tourist trade, bringing much needed income and jobs into the local area. As well as the shop and cafe, the building purchased by BCC includes a large flat above the shop which used to be the home of the previous owners. 

In 2025 and 2026, funds were raised from the Scottish Land Fund and Stratherrick and the Foyers Community Trust to purchase this building - the purchase was completed in March 2026 and the building, flat, shop and cafe passed into community ownership.

The shop and cafe are now being run as a separate community enterprise with BCC as the landlords for the building; BCC rents the shop and cafe space to Foyers Stores for a peppercorn rent to benefit the community. More information about the Shop can be found at: Home | Foyers Stores 

Following this momentous purchase for the community and the establishment of the community owned Shop, BCC’s focus is now turning to the large flat located above the Shop which is currently vacant. With knowledge of local housing needs, BCC’s aim is to raise funds to enable the community to alter and refurbish the large flat into smaller units which could be rented out at affordable rates to local members of the community, meeting a great need for local, affordable housing. Affordable housing is set out as a key need in the current Stratherrick and Foyers Place Plan and is an emerging theme in the revised and updated Plan which is currently being created. In order to achieve this aim, the first step is for BCC to develop with an architect and other professional experts a full plan of costs and refurbishment works alongside initiating the planning process. We are seeking funding to enable thes initial works to take place so that a full plan, specification and set of costs can be drawn up.
