1. What do you want to do?
We want to improve and redevelop the Mossie Road Play Area in Grantown-on-Spey so it better meets the needs of local children, young people and families.
The current play area is well used, but some of the equipment is ageing and there is an opportunity to create a more welcoming, inclusive and exciting space for the community.
Funding will help us to:
- Install new and improved play equipment
- Provide more inclusive and accessible play opportunities
- Improve the look and feel of the site
- Add seating and areas where families and carers can gather including a shelter
- Include natural play areas using planting or sensory paths etc
- Create a space that appeals to a wider range of ages and abilities
- Deliver the project from final design through to installation
Our aim is to create a play area that local children can enjoy now and for years to come.
2. Why is your project important for your community?
The Mossie Road Play Area is one of Grantown's most important outdoor spaces for children and families. It is used by local residents, visitors, schools and childcare providers throughout the year.
Through consultation and conversations with the community including the Grantown-on-Spey Community Action Plan, we know there is strong support for improving the play area. Families have told us they would like to see better equipment, more inclusive play opportunities and a space that caters for a wider range of ages including a shelter for wet and windy days.
Good play spaces are about much more than playground equipment. They help children stay active, build confidence, make friends and spend time outdoors. They also provide opportunities for families to meet and connect with each other.
The project supports priorities identified through the Grantown Area Place Plan, including improving facilities for children and young people, promoting health and wellbeing, creating accessible community spaces and investing in community assets that benefit residents and visitors alike.
3. What positive impact will your project have?
The biggest impact will be giving local children and families a better place to play, meet and spend time outdoors.
We expect the project to:
- Encourage more outdoor play and physical activity
- Improve health and wellbeing for children and families
- Create a more inclusive space that can be enjoyed by children of different ages and abilities
- Increase opportunities for social interaction and community connection
- Improve a well-used community asset that local people are proud of
- Provide a safe and attractive environment that encourages families to spend more time outdoors
- Incorpoare planting and natural play areas such a sensory or climbing spaces,
In the long term, the improved play area will continue to benefit local children, families and visitors, helping to make Grantown an even better place to live and visit.
