Full Project Details & Description
This project wants to future-proof Glenelg Pier as a sustainable community asset by ensuring the long-term structural integrity and transforming access for the wider community. Funding required is in two stages: ONE a scoping project TWO implimentation. The project is important to the community as the pier is the key access point to the water at all times of the tide. The project aligns seamlessly with our Area Place Plan by its inclusive multi-generational approach that serves all members of the community in equal measure. The creation of an accessible and resiliant space, in a place of outstanding natural beauty, this project truly delivers on a 'cradle to grave' philosophy, ensuring every demographic - from young families to elerly residents- can safely engage with and benefit from this vital local facility for decades to come. The expected impact of the project is that by installing modern, safe access points tailored for diverse users, to include custom access areas for all year open water swimmers of all ability, will be transformative for community health and sense of wellbeing, by enabling social inclusivity. Over 30% of the population swim from the pier plus it is asafe place for visitors. We have passed the first key milestone of gaining community support for the project as evidenced at a well supported meeting of the Glenelgand Arnisdale Trust 1st February 2026, a sub group was formed to take the project forward and a quote for Stage One - Scoping Project has been received from Wallace Stone. As the Trust owns the pier it is ready to take the project forward once Stage One Funding is secure.
