Caithness KLICS (Kids Living In Caring Situations) Supporting Young Carers aged 5-18 across Caithness

Caithness KLICS would like to purchase an electric 7/9 seater vehicle , we already have a 17 seater minibus but it's proving financially difficult to run, maintain and to encourage staff to drive it. 

The funding would be to purchase a new electri/hybrid vehicle

We suppoert Young Carers aged 5-18 years of age, who can come from vulnerable or complex housholds, due to the service demands we pick the children up daily from School so they can attend the group sessions in Wick. We also drop the children home after the group sessions and use the vehicle for trips. Currently we rely on a disel fueled minibus , with the cost and expenses this vehicle is unsustainable to the service. The electric vehicle would significantly improve the sustainability and efficiancy of our transport. The vehicle would be more accessible to drive and we can have a larger pool of staff who can drive it. It would also reduce running costs and lower KLICS carbon footprint. 

Caithness KLICS is  an important service to the community, offering not only a break for young carers but we suport the families also, with Food, Food vouchers, Toiletries and clothing. Along with a reliable and invironmental friendly vehicle this can only be a positive in the community. 

Measurable outcomes- CO2 reduction estimates, number of trips per year, less financial outgoings, reliable mode of transport, more staff prepared to drive the vehicle. Reduced isolation for rural Young Carers, inclusion for families who cannot produce transport for the groups, 

Families have increased confidence of thier childs safety, service pressures reduced.

We already have a mode of transport that proves larger numbers attending groups which in turn gains resillience in families, We just want a safer and more efficient way to transpor the children and staff.

Last year we got a business plan created for the overall service, we would be keen to send out poll's quiz to service users and families for thier feeback on the new vehicle. 

We would like to sell the KLICS minibus and purchase the new vehicle by the summer of 2026.
