Fort William Bike Shed
Proposal code: THC-2026-02-46
This Lochaber Environmental Group Project is based on the principles of circular economy and aims to support people to overcome barriers to cycling.
Estimated Price
9000
The Fort William Bike Shed project accepts donations of pre-loved bikes. These bikes are saved from landfill and either refurbished or the parts are recycled as effectively as we can.
The bikes are then sold on at an affordable price or awarded for free to referrals through our Access Bikes scheme.
Volunteers learn bike maintenance skills through working on the refurbishments.
The Fort William Bike Shed also teaches maintenance skills through courses and workshops.
We teach cycling skills as required to children and adults.
In the Fort William Bike Shed active travel library there are E Bikes and Trikes, cargo trailers, kids trailers and seats and other accesories that people can borrow.
Library members can also borrow the tools and book 'Fix Your Own BIke'supervised sessions in the workshop.
In partnership with the Fort William Pumptrack we support people to try adapted bikes and help them with adaptations as required.
We offer support to communities, employers, schools and other community groups to achieve their active travel objectives through training, Dr Bike events, referral services and advice.
The project is mainly funded through HITRANS (Transport Scotland People and Places Programme) and the HC Reuse and Repair Fund for the financial year 2026-7 but we are looking for additional funding to add another E Trike to our accessible fleet. These are used mainly for people to try before they buy their own. There is no-where else to try them.
