Castletown Drill hall  •  organisation  •  2026-02-23  •  No comments

Proposal code: THC-2026-02-54

We as the drill hall committee have been bringing the hall back to life by doing overdue repairs , new heating , fire alarm system etc , but we are acutely aware that our access isn't fit for purpose

1.We have a ramp into our little hall annexe , which is from the 1990's , which is no longet fit for purpose , because of the door arrangement it enters , it also is to tight for a lot of modern wheel chairs , also we are tied internaly with where our toilets are situated so would like a modern answer to how we can use the fire doors and make them accesable , also we think that out little carpark should have better markings for disabled use.

2. The hall is the centre of the comunity and used by all and a lot of our clubs are inclusive , also we are doing a lot of events to raise money for ongoing up keep of the hall and to pay for free events and sustainable cafes, we want this to be accesable to everyone and we are aware we are falling short for some people.

3. We already are running , in conjunction with Discovery College, peer support for the comunity , lunch and breakfast clubs , so this is our start for making the hall a warm, safe welcoming space not only for Castletown but for the wider Caithness comunity.

4. Roof repair 23k, new heating 13k , fire system and LED lights 4k , decorating /general repairs 5k , starting the outreach programme and we have now increased the usage of the hall 5 days of usage , we are hoping to be better self contained for running cost and are covering a lot of stuff by self funding.

Our first step for this next stage is to get funding so we can plan and cost the said improvents also to find out what consents we require. We are hoping to get this done by no later than August 2026, as we feel this is a priority.
