LEG Multipurpose Building

Lochaber Environmental Group (LEG) are looking to secure some land or a building in order to develop a LEG base, increase capacity and get all the projects under one roof.

Lochaber Environmental Group runs projects that help community members in Lochaber to overcome barriers to making environmentally friendly lifestyle changes. The organisation has hit a scale wall with capacity and some projects have to work across split sites.the organisation aims to purchase land or a building to renovate. This would enable LEG to respond to community demand for more projects. It would also enable existing projects like Fort William Bike Shed to increase capacity and work more efficiently. Our Repair Cafe project could also extablish a more permanent footing and increase the opportunity for repair and reuse. At this stage LEG is looking for funding to support the early stages of design, aquisition and feasibility.
The building would be a hub for all the projects but also a centre for environmental education, with capacity for workshops, exhibitions and partnership work. At this stage a Community Assset Transfer request is being worked on. A development manager was employed in 2025, one of their roles is to take this forward. Some initial sketch plans have been considered internally. Project staff are in the process of collecting letters of support and consulting members and community partners. An application has been submitted for this initial phase but at this stage it is unkown whether it has been successful.
