Proposal code: THC-2026-05-133

The main goal is to renovate the last remaining buildings on Loch Clash in Kinlochbervie as part of a long-term plan to create a tourist destination.

Estimated Cost

£24,000

The net sheds are the last of the historic structures at Loch Clash in Kinlochbervie - the site of the village's original harbour.  The building is deteriorating and we have received planning permission to stabilise the walls, create a new pedestrian-safe entrance at the gable end and install information boards about the history and culture of the area.  Due to safety concerns, we have recently removed the roof; this makes it important that we stabilize the structure as soon as possible.  The objective of the project is to preserve an important part of the area's history whilst creating a focal point which will be a destination for both locals and tourists.  Planning permission has already been granted.  The net sheds are part of a longer-term project to develop Loch Clash.  Previous work has included the building of a small campervan stopover (2016) along with various improvements to the stopover - the most recent have been an upgraded picnic area (2025) and the installation of a grey water disposal point (2025).  Community surveys undertaken by the Kinlochbervie Community Company have shown that there is a real communtiy desire to preserve and celebrate the area's history; the regeneration of the net sheds will create a destination (there are very few pedestrian-friendly places within the village where people can enjoy the sea), preserve some of the historic built environment and provide information on the area's history and culture including marine history.
